Procedures and Information
Police Department Escort & Permit Guidelines
The Santa Fe Police Department supports City operations by coordinating escorts for oversize and overweight permits. Please follow these internal guidelines to ensure smooth processing:
- Advance Notice: Submit permit requests at least one week in advance. Weekends do not count toward notice, and requests received after 4:00 p.m. will be reviewed the next business day.
- Escort Availability: Escorts are available Monday–Friday only, excluding holidays. Availability may be adjusted based on staffing or resource needs. Escorts may also be rescheduled or canceled due to weather or limited resources.
- Permit Requirements: All applications must include proof of insurance and a route description noting expected traffic or utility impacts. Applications without insurance will be denied.
- Curfew Hours: No escorts are provided during peak traffic times:
7:30–8:30 a.m.
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
4:30–6:00 p.m. - Fees:
- $30.00 permit fee per application
- $300.00 per day for police escorts
- Separate permits and fees are required for split loads or multiple trips.
Escort Requirements: Escorts are required for loads exceeding:
8’6” wide, 14’ high, or 65’ long
20’ wide or travel of 5+ miles
Or as otherwise directed by SFPD for safety concerns

This is accomplished through comprehensive and impartial investigations of alleged employee misconduct, providing proactive measures to prevent such misconduct, and maintaining the highest standards of fairness and respect towards citizens and employees.
